  • Office-based anesthesia is becoming more common in the U.S., thanks to advancements in anesthetic drugs and equipment. A trained dentist anesthesiologist accompanied by a paramedic can now transform a dental office into an operating room with hospital-grade monitors, anesthesia machines, and emergency equipment. We believe airway protection, including intubation, is essential for most dental surgeries to prevent foreign substances from entering the lungs and to ensure oxygen delivery. Our team comes equipped with state of the art equipment, providing continuous monitoring of pulse, blood pressure, ECG, temperature, and gas levels. We meet and exceed all state in-office anesthesia requirements.

  • Our team performs a comprehensive preoperative evaluation, taking into account the patient’s medical history, current health, and specific surgical requirements. This enables us to create a customized anesthesia plan that prioritizes safety and comfort.

We utilize advanced monitoring technology to observe vital signs and physiological responses in real time. Our team, composed of anesthesiologist and paramedics, follows the latest safety protocols. We ensure continuous monitoring and post-surgery follow-up to guarantee a full recovery and maximum comfort.

  • Dental anesthesia is generally regarded as a minor procedure, with side effects that are usually mild and brief. Children often wake up feeling cranky but typically return to their usual activities within two hours. Adults may experience sedation for a longer period, but they also tend to resume normal activities the same day. Nausea and vomiting is typically the most commonly experienced side effect. If you have any specific concerns or inquiries, please reach out, and one of our anesthesiologists will gladly provide personalized answers.

  • Intubation is a common and standard procedure that involves placing a breathing tube to secure the airway during dental surgery. This tube helps prevent substances like water, tooth particles, and dental materials from entering the lungs, while also ensuring the delivery of anesthetic gases and oxygen. Dental surgery is distinct because both the surgeon and anesthesiologist need to access the oral cavity. By using intubation, the anesthesiologist can continuously monitor the patient’s breathing, giving the surgeon unrestricted access to perform the procedure efficiently and safely with the airway under control.

Advanced monitoring equipment, combined with intubation, allows the anesthesiologist to closely observe breathing and oxygen levels, immediately detecting any changes. State-of-the-art video technology enables quick and minimally invasive placement of the breathing tube, reducing discomfort for the patient. We believe intubation enhances anesthesia safety and gives the dental surgeon the freedom to operate without airway interruptions or limitations. That being said, in some instances such very short procedures or unique patient needs, the anesthesiologist may proceed without intubating or in other words perform “open airway” anesthesia.

  • Yes

  • No. Many insurance companies often deny coverage for out-of-facility anesthesia, so we do not accept insurance directly. However, we believe you can still obtain reimbursement by being persistent. We will assist by providing the necessary forms for submission. For the best results, contact your insurance provider before treatment. After deductibles, copays, and other charges, in-office anesthesia often results in lower out-of-pocket costs, with no unexpected bills later.

  • Modern anesthesia has never been safer. As a board-certified dental anesthesiologist, Dr. Jamilpanah carefully reviews your child’s medical history to create a customized and safe sedation plan.

If your child has certain medical conditions that increase risk, we may recommend treatment in a hospital or surgery center to ensure the highest level of care.

  • Your child’s safety and comfort are our top priorities. To ensure a smooth procedure, please follow these guidelines:

    • Before: Your child should not eat or have dairy products for at least six hours before the procedure. Clear liquids like water, Gatorade, Jello, or popsicles are allowed up to three hours before, but nothing should be consumed in the final three hours before their appointment. These precautions help keep your child safe during anesthesia. If the guidelines aren’t followed, we may need to reschedule the procedure.

    • After: Plan for a restful day at home after the procedure. Your child may be sleepy, so having a calm, comfortable space ready for them is important. Most children return to their normal routine by the next day.

Our team is here to support you every step of the way. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out—we want you and your child to feel at ease.
